Music Production & Custom Beats in Toronto

When the problem is not the recording but the music itself. Custom beats, full arrangements, live keys, guitar and bass, and backing tracks for the stage — built from scratch for your record rather than leased to a hundred other people.

  • Custom beats built for your song
  • Full arrangement and sound design
  • Live keys, guitar and bass in the room
  • Session drummer and guitarist available
  • Backing tracks for live shows
  • Hourly rate, estimate before you commit

Production happens at the same desk the records get tracked and mixed at — keys and guitar are an arm away.

The process

How a production comes together

  1. 1

Say what you are trying to make

A reference track does more than a paragraph. Send two or three songs that sit near what you hear in your head, plus a tempo or a key if you already have one.

  2. 2

    We build the track

Drums, bass, keys, guitar, samples and sound design in FL Studio, Ableton Live or Pro Tools — arranged into a real song with an intro, a hook and somewhere to go, not an eight-bar loop repeated.

  3. 3

    Real instruments where they help

A Roland A-88 MKII weighted 88-key controller for piano and keys, a Fender Stratocaster and a Fender Jazz Bass in the room, and session players for live drums, guitar and bass when a programmed part is not going to cut it.

  4. 4

Record it, or take it away

Book studio time on top and cut your vocal over the production in the same room, or take the beat and record it wherever you like. Both are normal.

Production is billed at the same hourly rate as everything else here — what changes with the job is the estimate, not the rate. A beat you take away and a full production with live players tracked over it are two very different amounts of work, so tell us which one you are after and you get the hours and the cost up front. Charging by the hour is the fairer way round: if it comes together fast, you pay for the time it actually took rather than a flat fee set for the worst case.

What we make

Beats, productions and backing tracks

Custom beats

Built for you rather than pulled off a lease site — trap, hip-hop, R&B, pop and electronic are the usual ground, but the room has tracked most things.

Full productions

Arrangement, instrumentation and sound design from a voice memo or a bare idea through to a finished instrumental.

Backing tracks

Stripped or extended versions of your song for performing live, so the show does not depend on whoever is on the desk that night.

The instruments

Roland A-88 MKII 88-key weighted controller, Fender Stratocaster, Fender Jazz Bass, and a session drummer and guitarist/bassist on the team for live takes.

The software

FL Studio, Ableton Live and Pro Tools, with UAD, Waves, FabFilter, Soundtoys, Antares Auto-Tune and Celemony Melodyne on top.

How it is priced

By the hour, the same as everything else here. Send your references and you get an estimate of the hours and the cost for what you are actually asking for, before any work starts — a beat and a full production with live players are not the same job, so the estimate moves with the scope even though the rate does not.

What it costs

Studio rate

$65 / hour

Engineer included. Your first session is 25% off, and paying in full 24 hours ahead takes another 10% off.

See open times

Book more hours, pay less per hour

$60 / hr

4+ hours

$55 / hr

15+ hours

$50 / hr

30+ hours

That is up to 23% off the standard rate at 30 hours ($50 an hour). Bulk hours are prepaid and used whenever you like — a single booking cannot run long enough to reach the top tiers on its own.

A 25% deposit holds the room (minimum $30) and the balance is due at the session. Deposits go through Stripe or PayPal; e-transfer is fine too.

Production is billed at that same hourly rate — start a booking, choose Full Beat Production and send your references, and you get an estimate of the hours before any work starts. Cutting your vocal over the finished production afterwards is hourly studio time at the same rate.

Questions

Before you commission anything

How much does a custom beat cost?

It is the hourly studio rate, $50–$65/hr depending on how many hours you book. Send your references first and you get an estimate of the hours and the cost for what you are asking for, so the scope is agreed up front rather than discovered at the end. Recording your vocal over it afterwards is the same hourly rate.

Who owns the beat?

Agree that before any work starts. Ownership and splits are settled in writing as part of the quote — never assume it and never leave it until after the song does well.

Can I hear something you produced?

Yes. There are two full productions from this room — an EDM/pop track and a hip-hop track — playing in the services section of the homepage.

Can you finish a track I started?

Yes. Send what you have and say where it stalled. Sometimes the answer is production, sometimes it is just a mix — you will get told which.

Do you make backing tracks for live shows?

Yes — stripped or extended arrangements of your own material for performing. Say what your live setup is when you enquire so the track is built for it.
